Butterfly Cape

Count the butterflies if you like, though they won’t hold still. They’re scattered across this sheer white cape from the shoulders all the way down, in iridescent pinks, teals, blues, violets and golds that shift as the light moves, so the one that looked pink a moment ago may have other ideas now.

A gold ribbon ties in a bow at the throat, and the rest falls loose and see-through, which means the outfit underneath still gets to show. Arms out makes wings. A slow turn sets the whole flock shimmering. At Halloween it’s most of a butterfly costume already, and the rest of the year it’s simply what one wears to visit the garden.
