Fire Station No. 19 has a handle on the roof, so the whole firehouse can answer a call in the next room or the next town. Closed up, its painted front shows a red-brick station with three arched windows, a cat lounging on the bench out front and a potted tree beside the big door. Open it on both sides and the inside unfolds into floors for the crew and room for the trucks to roll in.
Two red fire trucks are on duty, one with a hose spool on the back, along with a pair of wooden firefighters with bead-tipped arms. A ladder, a hydrant and a flame give the crew something to do. The station pets keep watch too: a Dalmatian and a rescue dog in a red vest, both ready to ride along.
