Orange, black and white plaid, twisted at both ends like an oversized piece of candy. Each end is tied off with a ruffle of black and white fringe and a curl of cream ribbon, and a round sticker on the front shows a smiling fellow in a party hat, mid-stride and clearly on his way somewhere fun.
The plaid is only the opening act. Tucked inside are retro sweets, stickers, favors, toys, a temporary tattoo, a silly joke or fortune and a scatter of confetti. No two are packed the same way, so two kids opening theirs side by side will have plenty to compare, and possibly a few trades to negotiate.
