The beak arrives first. It’s black at the tip, with a wedge of rose glitter behind it and one round black eye keeping watch from a dusty pink head that perches right on top of your kid’s own.
Then come the feathers, or the next best thing: three ruffled tiers of bright pink that drape from the shoulders and fluff out over a longer, paler, sheer layer underneath. The ruffles are gathered at the neck and get wider as they go, so every flap of the arms has something to show for it.
Standing on one leg is optional, though it does tend to come up.
