A castle glows pink and gold at dusk, and everyone has turned out for it: a princess in a long white gown, a rider on a white horse, an owl keeping watch from a turret, a deer in the tall grass, and a dragon peering in from the edge of the hill.
The whole painting is soft and storybook, dusty rose and sage and warm cream under a crescent moon, with bats crossing the sky and slim autumn trees letting go of their leaves. It comes together on the rug, one sturdy piece at a time, until the kingdom is spread out at your kid’s knees.

Why we love it
It is the kind of picture you keep looking at after the last piece goes in. Somebody always spots the dragon first, and then it is a whole conversation about what he wants and whether the owl has noticed him yet.
