About this event

Meenal Patel is reading “Where Do Stories Live?”, the book she wrote and illustrated. Avni gets a journal for her birthday from her Masi, her auntie, and starts wondering what is worth putting on its blank pages. The day she and her younger sister Isha spend answering that turns up stories in nature, in objects, in their family, in their culture and in each other. Stay after the last page for freebies, a sweet little snack, and playtime in the playroom. Copies are on hand if one wants to come home with you.

About the author

Meenal Patel is an artist, author and designer who at four announced she was going to be a butterfly when she grew up. Her work celebrates everyday joys, the moments that connect us, and the strength of community. She wrote and illustrated “Where Do Stories Live?” (Kokila / Penguin Young Readers, 2026) and “Priya Dreams of Marigolds & Masala” (Beaver’s Pond Press, 2019), which won the South Asia Book Award. When she is not making books she paints with her nieces, bakes birthday cakes, and hikes with her husband and their dog, Dosa. Her favorite place to find stories is in pictures. She is still working on the butterfly part.
